Or, put it another way - you can expect to trust it about as much as a $19 toaster you buy at Walmart.Īlso re: the comment "now I have to figure out how to get some of my files out of this brick, there are some old files I no longer have backup" - not to pour salt on the wounds but any time you only have a single copy of something, you are asking to lose it. It all leads me to believe that Drobo is not and never has been a solid, trustworthy choice for a big storage device. And I have 30 years of high-end IT experience including tons of work with big storage. I have no direct hands-on experience with Drobos because they never looked like a device I would trust just from the basic specs, but I definitely know a number of folks who do use them (or, increasingly, have used them in the past). All too often in those cases, Drobo support seems to be arbitrary, even apparently worthless.

But Drobo devices do seem to fail a fair amount, and quite catastrophically when they do. It's not so much that the Drobo devices might fail, because let's face it just about any device can fail. There are far too many stories like this, including a number of past threads on this very forum as well as hundreds around the rest of the net. I have never recommended Drobo, and never will. Check out Synology and look for my thread here about it.also read this: I too am "done with Drobo" and have been for about the last 3 years. It is very frustrating, I would not recommend this company's products. When I asked why did this happen the guy couldn't come up with a meaningful sentence, apparently it is a common defect and they try to wash it under the carpet. The drive basically doesn't mount on any computer and is a useless brick now. When I inquired about the warranty they said they are not honoring any warranty because it is a "software" issue. The customer support at this company is just a big BS, they told me that the only way to get the drive mounted is to purchase a 3rd party software for $120 and try it "fix" what is Drobo's problem and even then it may not work or destroy my data. After hours of trying the usual remedies with no success I called Drobo support. The drobo dashboard shows it as healthy but it does not mount.
#Drobo dashboard mac drive not seen pro#
Two days ago it suddenly decided to dismount from my Mac Pro for no reason. I have had it for only a couple of months. I use a Drobo 3rd Gen for my cold storage, it backs up my SSD rack.

Wanted to warn Drobo users who may not have a secondary backup.
